‘Promoting Communalism,’ Chirag Paswan Rejects AIMIM’s Inclusion in Mahagathbandhan
Patna, July 4: Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief and Union Minister Chirag Paswan has firmly opposed the idea of including Asaduddin Owaisi’s All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) in the opposition-led Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) in Bihar. Responding to AIMIM’s reported overtures to join the alliance ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, Paswan accused the party of “promoting communalism” and said such elements should have no place in Bihar’s political future.
Paswan said, “We should not allow communal politics to seep further into Bihar. AIMIM has always played divisive politics, and its inclusion would harm the spirit of social justice and development that Bihar needs.”
The statement comes in response to AIMIM leaders reportedly reaching out to Mahagathbandhan constituents—primarily the RJD and Congress—for a potential alliance to counter the NDA. AIMIM currently holds a marginal vote base in certain Muslim-dominated regions of Bihar, especially in the Seemanchal area, but has failed to significantly dent the state’s electoral landscape in recent years.
Chirag Paswan, a prominent ally of the NDA, emphasized the importance of maintaining secular and inclusive politics while cautioning against opportunistic alliances. “This isn’t just about seats or votes. It’s about the message we send to the people. We need unity, not polarization,” he added.
Meanwhile, leaders from RJD and Congress have not officially responded to AIMIM’s request, maintaining a strategic silence. Political analysts believe the Mahagathbandhan may be reluctant to include AIMIM due to its controversial image and the risk of alienating a broader secular voter base.
As Bihar gears up for a heated political battle in 2025, this development adds another layer of complexity to the evolving alliance equations in the state.
