Illegal Immigrant Detection & Pushbacks Now Faster in Assam
The Assam Government has announced stricter measures to curb illegal immigration with swifter detection and expulsion procedures.
Under the Immigrants (Expulsion from Assam) Act, 1950, any person suspected of being an illegal immigrant by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) will now be given 10 days’ time to prove their Indian citizenship with valid documents.
Authorities have stressed that there will be “Zero Tolerance” towards illegal infiltration in the state. Once the 10-day period lapses without proof, immediate pushback and deportation processes will be initiated.
The move comes as part of the government’s larger crackdown on illegal migration in border districts, with security forces and district administrations asked to coordinate closely for faster detection and expulsion.
Officials maintain that this strict enforcement is aimed at protecting the rights of genuine citizens while ensuring that Assam’s demographic and security concerns are addressed effectively.
