NFR powers ahead with Solar Energy Initiatives

Boosts solar energy generation capacity to 7399 kWp

 

 

Maligaon, 26th November, 2024:

 

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable development and energy efficiency by significantly enhancing its solar energy capacity during the 2024-25 financial year. As part of its ongoing efforts towards reducing its carbon footprint and embrace renewable energy, NFR commissioned an overall solar capacity of 1277 kWp between the month of April and October, 2024 within its jurisdiction.

This initiative witnessed the installation of additional solar power plants across its divisions i.e. with Rangiya Division leading with 672 kWp, followed by Lumding Division with 545 kWp and Alipurduar Division contributing 60 kWp.

The cumulative solar capacity across the NFR zone has now reached an impressive 7399 kWp as of 31st October, 2024. This significant contribution includes from Lumding Division (2882 kWp), Rangiya Division (1146 kWp), Katihar Division (610 kWp), Alipurduar Division (441 kWp), Tinsukia Division (190 kWp) and the workshops at New Bongaigaon & Dibrugarh each housing 1000 kWp solar plants. The railway headquarters of NFR also house a solar power generation capacity of 130 kWp. Solar capacity installations are helping NFR reduces its dependence on scarces conventional energy sources while setting an example for sustainable operations with the renewable ones. Looking ahead, NFR is making substantial strides in expanding its solar energy infrastructure. Currently, work is underway to install an additional 3935 kWp of solar capacity across various divisions and tenders have been further floated for a remarkable 40,411 kWp of solar projects for power generation. This ambitious plan will further position NFR as a leader in green energy adoption within the Indian Railways network.

By leveraging renewable energy, NFR is not only reducing its carbon emissions but also contributing to the nation’s broader goals of sustainable development and clean energy adoption.
