“Only want to stay in headlines…” MoS Defence blames Opposition over Parliament adjournment

New Delhi, 27 July:

Amid ongoing political heat in the monsoon session of Parliament, Minister of State (MoS) for Defence Ajay Bhatt took a direct jab at the Opposition on Saturday, accusing them of deliberately disrupting proceedings for the sake of “media attention” rather than genuine legislative concern.

Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, Bhatt said, “The Opposition is not interested in debates or discussions. They only want to stay in headlines by creating uproar. This constant disruption is hampering important legislative work.”

Frequent adjournments stall key bills

The latest session has witnessed repeated adjournments in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, with key bills pending for discussion. The Opposition has been demanding immediate debate on several sensitive issues including national security concerns and inflation, while the government maintains that there is an agenda to be followed and discussions should occur as scheduled.

Opposition hits back

Leaders from Congress and other INDIA bloc parties refuted Bhatt’s claims, stating that raising public and national interest issues is a duty, not disruption.

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said, “The government is avoiding tough questions. They label our concern as drama because they don’t want accountability.”

Rising tensions as election year approaches

With the 2026 general elections inching closer, both sides appear to be hardening their stance. While the government seeks to project stability and progress, the Opposition is mounting pressure on issues such as defence preparedness, Manipur violence, and alleged misuse of central agencies.

The repeated adjournments and the blame game underline the deepening political divide in Parliament. As MoS Defence’s remarks stoke fresh controversy, it remains to be seen whether dialogue can resume or if disruption will continue to define the session.
