
EGPD Seizes Fake Currency, Two from Manipur Arrested
Guwahati police on Friday intercepted a Hyundai i20 (Reg. No. DL4C AX 0800) near the Audi showroom, Beharbari, acting on specific intelligence inputs. The operation, carried out by an EGPD team from Basistha Police Station, led to the recovery of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) worth ₹18,000.
Arrested persons:
1️⃣ Wasim Wangmayum (21) – Resident of Lilong, Thoubal, Manipur
2️⃣ Samurailatpam Prasanta Sharma (25) – Resident of Mantrikhong, Imphal, Manipur
Seized items:
💵 FICN ₹500 × 36 pieces = ₹18,000/-
🚗 Hyundai i20 with key
📱 Poco Android phone (Wasim)
📱 iPhone 15 Pro (Prasanta)
According to preliminary investigation, the accused had allegedly procured the counterfeit currency from Noida and Delhi, intending to circulate it in Guwahati. Police suspect the involvement of a wider interstate network.
Further investigation is underway to trace other links in the racket.
