At Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025, Infinix unveiled a groundbreaking concept: a smartphone capable of harnessing solar energy for charging. This innovation, termed ‘SolarEnergy-Reserving Technology,’ integrates perovskite solar cells into the device, allowing it to capture ambient light from both indoor and outdoor sources. The energy collected is stored directly within the device, offering an alternative charging method, especially useful during power outages or when traditional charging options are unavailable.
The current prototype achieves a charging capacity of up to 2W, which can extend the device’s standby time or serve as a practical backup. While this power level may not replace conventional charging methods, it represents a significant step towards sustainable smartphone technology.
In addition to the integrated solar panels, Infinix introduced a solar charging phone case. This accessory can be paired with compatible devices, providing users with flexibility and convenience in maintaining their device’s battery life through solar energy.
These developments highlight Infinix’s commitment to exploring sustainable and innovative charging solutions, potentially reducing reliance on traditional power sources and paving the way for more eco-friendly consumer electronics.
