Trump Says He is Open to Musk Buying TikTok if Tesla CEO Wants to Do So

In a recent statement, former U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his openness to the idea of Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, purchasing TikTok, the popular social media platform. Trump’s comments come amidst ongoing concerns over TikTok’s ownership and its potential national security risks due to its parent company, ByteDance, being based in China.

During a media interaction, Trump stated, “If Elon Musk wants to buy TikTok, I think that would be a good idea. He’s a genius, and he could make it even better. I’m sure he’d find a way to ensure the platform is secure and beneficial for America.”

This statement echoes Trump’s previous actions during his presidency when he attempted to push for a ban on TikTok unless it was sold to a U.S.-based company. His administration had raised concerns about the app’s potential for data misuse and espionage.

Elon Musk, known for his innovative ventures, has not publicly expressed any interest in acquiring TikTok. However, Musk’s recent acquisition of Twitter (rebranded as X) has shown his willingness to diversify his business portfolio.

TikTok, with over a billion active users globally, remains a major player in the social media landscape. Any potential acquisition by Musk would likely face significant scrutiny and regulatory hurdles.

For now, Trump’s comments seem more like a speculative endorsement rather than a concrete possibility. It remains to be seen if Musk will take interest in this idea or if it will spark further debates on TikTok’s future in the U.S. market.
