Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has expressed strong support for Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s condemnation of the treatment of 104 Indian nationals deported from the United States. These individuals were returned to India in handcuffs and shackles, a practice both leaders have criticized as inhumane and degrading.
Speaking to ANI, Chaturvedi highlighted the harsh conditions faced by the deportees during their return journey, noting that they were restrained and denied basic amenities. She emphasized that such treatment is unacceptable, especially since these individuals were not criminals. Chaturvedi called on the Indian government to take the opposition into confidence and clarify the actions being taken in response to this incident.
Chief Minister Mann also took to social media to express his dismay, describing the U.S. actions as “deeply regrettable” and “a matter of great shame for our country.” He criticized the Haryana government for transporting the deportees in police prisoner vans upon their arrival in Amritsar, equating it to “rubbing salt on their wounds.”
The deportation has sparked a broader political debate, with leaders from various parties questioning the Indian government’s response and its implications for the nation’s dignity on the international stage.
