Rajnath Singh Pays Tribute to Freedom Fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju on His 128th Birth Anniversary
New Delhi, July 4: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh paid heartfelt tribute to legendary freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju on the occasion of his 128th birth anniversary. Remembering the valiant revolutionary for his fearless resistance against British colonial rule, Singh hailed him as a symbol of courage, patriotism, and sacrifice.
Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Rajnath Singh wrote, “Tributes to the great freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju on his birth anniversary. His unmatched courage and unwavering spirit in resisting British rule will continue to inspire generations. He remains a symbol of India’s fierce struggle for independence.”
Alluri Sitarama Raju, fondly known as “Manyam Veerudu” (Hero of the Jungles), led the Rampa Rebellion (1922–24) against British forces in the Eastern Ghats region of Andhra Pradesh. Known for his guerrilla warfare tactics and deep connection with tribal communities, Raju became a folk hero who sacrificed his life for the country at the young age of 27.
Singh also highlighted the importance of preserving the legacy of such unsung heroes, stating that their contributions should be a part of every Indian’s historical consciousness. He called for the youth to draw inspiration from their selfless dedication to the motherland.
Events commemorating Alluri Sitarama Raju’s birth anniversary were held in several parts of Andhra Pradesh and across the country, with floral tributes, cultural programs, and exhibitions showcasing his life and contributions.
The tribute from one of India’s top ministers underscores the government’s continued efforts to honour the memory of lesser-known yet iconic figures of India’s freedom movement.
