Prof. Rajib Shaw Holds Strategic Discussion with GMC on Heatwave and Disaster Preparedness
Guwahati, August 4, 2025:
In a significant step toward building a climate-resilient and disaster-ready Guwahati, Prof. Rajib Shaw, Director of the India-Japan Laboratory at Keio University, Japan, and an internationally renowned expert in disaster management and sustainable development, held an in-depth consultation with the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC).
The session focused on key areas including heat wave impact studies, disaster risk assessment, and sustainable urban planning for Guwahati. The aim was to strategize the city’s preparedness and resilience in the face of climate-induced challenges, especially increasing temperatures and urban vulnerabilities.
Present at the meeting were GMC Commissioner Dr. M.S. Lakshmi Priya, IAS, along with Joint Commissioners Smt Kriti Chachra, IAS; Dr. Dhruba Jyoti Hazarika; Shri Mrinal Borah, ACS; Collector Shri Tulsi Ranjan Kalita, as well as Executive Officers, Executive Engineers, and other senior officials of GMC.
The discussion emphasized collaborative planning, community engagement, and scientific approaches to reduce risks and promote sustainable urban development.
