NFR to operate Special Steam & Diesel Joyride Services in DHR
During upcoming Festive and Winter Season

The Northeast Frontier Railway has decided to operate four pairs of Special Steam & Diesel Rides & four Special Diesel Joyrides train services under the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) from 19th September, 2025 to cater the passengers in view of upcoming festive and winter season. It may be noted that DHR, a UNESCO World Heritage Site witnesses footfall of thousands of local as well as foreign tourists during this peak season. Operation of these special services will add to their experience of enjoying the beauty of hills.
Accordingly, train No. 02542 (Darjeeling – Kurseong) Festive Special Steam Ride will operate every Saturday from 20th September to 01st November, 2025. The train will depart from Darjeeling at 09:10 hours to reach Kurseong at 13:20 hours. Train No. 02543 (Kurseong – Darjeeling) Festive Special Steam Ride will operate every Sunday from 21st September to 02nd November, 2025. The train will depart from Kurseong at 12:00 hours to reach Darjeeling at 17:02 hours.
Train No. 02544/02545 (Kurseong – Mahanadi – Kurseong) Sunset Special Steam Ride will operate every Saturday from 20th September to 1st November, 2025. Train No. 02544 will depart from Kurseong at 15:30 hours to arrive Mahanadi at 16:30 hours and train No. 02545 will depart from Mahanadi at 16:50 hours to arrive Kurseong at 17:30 hours.
Train No. 02552/02551 (Kurseong – Mahanadi – Kurseong) Sunrise Special Steam Ride will operate every Sunday from 21st September to 2nd November, 2025. Train No. 02552 will depart from Kurseong at 07:15 hours to arrive Mahanadi at 08:15 hours and train No. 02551 will depart from Mahanadi at 08:40 hours to arrive Kurseong at 09:30 hours.
Train No. 02553/02554 (Siliguri Jn. – Rangtong – Siliguri Jn.) Tea, Timber Special Diesel Ride will operate every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 19th September to 02nd November, 2025. Train No. 02553 will depart from Siliguri Jn. at 12:00 hours to reach Rangtong at 13:15 hours and train No. 02554 will depart from Rangtong at 16:15 hours to reach Siliguri Jn. at 17:30 hours.
Four Special Diesel Joyrides will operate daily from 20th September to 05th January 2026. These trains will operate between Darjeeling and Ghum station. These trains will run with a composition of 03 first class coaches.
The Services of train No. 52592 (Darjeeling – Ghum – Darjeeling) Morning Diesel Joyride will continue from 20th September, 2025. This train will depart from Darjeeling at 07:15 hours to reach Ghum at 08:00 hours and depart from Ghum at 08:20 hours and reach Darjeeling at 08:50 hours.
