Kanaklata Barua University to Come Up in Gohpur: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Invites Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for Foundation Ceremony
New Delhi, July 28:
In a significant step towards strengthening higher education in Assam, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma met Union Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi today. During their cordial meeting, the Chief Minister extended a formal invitation to the Union Minister to visit Gohpur and lay the foundation stone of the upcoming Kanaklata Barua University.
Named after Birangana Kanaklata Barua, one of Assam’s most iconic freedom fighters, the university will stand as a tribute to her bravery and commitment to the nation. CM Sarma described the institution as a symbol of Assam’s respect for its heroes and a step toward creating a modern education hub in the region.
The university is envisioned as one of the first in the state to be built around an industry-oriented academic approach. It will offer future-ready courses in key technological fields like:
Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Quantum Computing
Robotics
And other emerging technologies
CM Sarma said that the university will be designed to not only provide quality education but also to nurture innovation, entrepreneurship, and skill development. “It will help our youth stay ahead in the fast-changing global job market,” he added.
Union Minister Sitharaman warmly welcomed the initiative and appreciated the efforts being made to boost education and employment in Assam.
The foundation-laying ceremony is expected to be held soon, with preparations already underway in Gohpur.
