TAMULPUR TRIBAL SANGHA PROTEST AGAINST GOVERNMENT DECISION

In response to a call by the All Assam Tribal Sangha’s central committee, the Tamulpur District Tribal Sangha staged a strong protest in front of its district office today. The agitation was triggered by the Assam Government’s recent notification that declared seven other communities as protected classes within the Tribal Belt and Block areas, including the Tri-rap Tribal Belt.

 

Terming the notification as “unjust and unconstitutional,” the protesting members of the Tribal Sangha set fire to a copy of the government order, alleging that the move would undermine the rights of the indigenous tribal communities.

 

Representatives of the Tamulpur District Rava Students’ Union, Hajong Students’ Union, and Tamulpur District Bodo Students’ Union also extended solidarity by joining the protest.

 

Speaking during the demonstration, Tamulpur District Tribal Sangha president Gajen Narzary said:

“The notification issued by the government is a conspiracy to snatch away the rights of the tribal people. We will never accept this decision. If necessary, we are ready to intensify the movement and take it to the streets.”

 

Although the protest ended peacefully, the participants warned that if the government failed to withdraw the decision, they would launch a larger agitation in the coming days
