
Sonapur Dacoity Case Cracked: 5 Arrested, Looted Items Recovered
Guwahati, September 17:
A joint team of East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) comprising SOG, Sonapur Police Station, and Jorabat Outpost has successfully solved the sensational Sonapur dacoity case that took place on August 24, 2025, at 13th Mile, Tamulikuchi.
Acting on precise technical inputs, the police launched a night-long operation in Byrnihat, Nongpoh, and 12th Mile areas, which culminated in the arrest of five accused persons and recovery of the looted items.
Arrested dacoits include:
1. Maxxpil K Marak of Rajabagan, Nongpoh
2. Bijoy Thangkhiew (45) of Pahamsyiem, Nongpoh
3. Nur Mahammad alias Ali (36) of Patalikuchi, Barpeta
4. Tronit Sangma (31) of Rajabagan, Nongpoh
5. Hilbert Sangma (30) of Tandu, Sonapur
Recovered and seized articles:
One SBL gun, one 1.5 ft iron dagger, two sharp knives, and a mask
Two looted mobile phones, gold-like ornaments, and ₹2,000 in cash
Two vehicles used in the crime: a Redi-Go (ML10B7842) and a Tata Tigor (ML10B6113)
Police officials stated that the swift and coordinated action of the joint team ensured a major breakthrough in the case within a short span of time. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the arrested accused.
