Tourist Taxi Association Blocks Assam Vehicles at Umtyngngar

Tension surfaced on Tuesday morning after members of the All Khasi Meghalaya Tourist Taxi Association (AKMTTA) intercepted tourist vehicles from Assam at Umtyngngar.
The association has enforced a complete ban on Assam-based tourist taxis, barring them from ferrying visitors to popular tourist destinations across Meghalaya. AKMTTA had earlier announced its decision to restrict vehicles from Assam, citing local concerns.
Despite the presence of police personnel at the spot, they reportedly remained passive observers while AKMTTA members conducted checks and stopped the incoming vehicles.
The sudden restriction has caused inconvenience to tourists and raised concerns about interstate travel and tourism between Assam and Meghalaya.
